KVRU’s News Reporting Circle is collaborating with BIPOC leaders of Seattle to facilitate critical conversations on enacting change in our Southeast Seattle communities with activism, organizing, and advocacy. As a community-based radio station in one of the most diverse neighborhoods of Seattle, we want to share information on ways we can get involved in shaping our communities together.
The News Reporting Circle’s government & policy reporter, Guy Oron, and youth stories reporter, Erin Howard, are moderators of this event.

Alexis Mburu
My name is Alexis Mburu (she/her). I am a Junior at Foster High School in Tukwila, WA. I am involved in multiple organizations focused around equity in the education system such as the NAACP Youth Council and Washington Ethnic Studies Now. I am also a Race & Equity facilitator for my school district and involved in my school’s Black Student Union.
Julie-C
Julie-C (she/her) is a Hip Hop artist, community organizer, and cultural advocate from Seattle who believes in public safety through creative equity and radical innovation. She is founder of Seattle Artist Coalition for Equitable Development (Seattle ACED) and Co-Founder of Forever Safe Spaces, a social purpose corporation forged for and by frontline artists as a force of self-preservation, holistic healing, and cultural resilience. Tye Reed
Originally from Kansas City, Tye Reed (she/her) is a community organizer in Seattle focused on homelessness advocacy and direct aid to encampments. She is the Co-Chair of House Our Neighbors and a member of the Seattle Transit Riders Union. Tye recently began working for Real Change as the Operations Director.
Zion Thomas
Zion Thomas aka Zion The Lion (he/him) is an artist, student and organizer from South Seattle who uses afrofuturism & wit to grow with community. Lynn Doan, show producer
Lynn Doan is a Vietnamese American community organizer, social work professional, and multimedia producer. They have been a part of social movement work for 8 years, co-creating events and leading liberation-oriented projects related to: behavioral health, QTBIPOC community building, media justice, and anti-racism work throughout the Greater Seattle area.
