We are in a period of transition at KVRU. As the new station manager, I am settling in and meeting long-time volunteers and programmers. I have been honored to learn how they have been transformed through their time with KVRU.
We are hunkering down to incubate and dream up new possibilities for the KVRU family and community. What can we grow in six months? What can we grow in a year? What about 5 years and even 10 years? We need to imagine ourselves in the future and how it will be transformed by radio.
This is the question I am asking everyone: “How do radio, media, and technology build community?” The answers will help us build a powerful station that centers community. Audre Lorde stated, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” My hope is that we will be fearless as we invite more community members into KVRU to add their unique and diverse voices that transform our vision into reality.
