KVRU is excited to announce our collaboration with Nourish! The Nourish team is a group of Seattle-based young people united by their appreciation for food and social justice.
Nourish documents the stories of these Seattle organizers – the histories of their youth, struggles, dreams for the future, and what’s tied it all together – food. They believe that food has the power to unite and activate communities. They have transformed their original book of short stories and recipes into a radio series, starting August 10.
Nourish is one of five community-made programs that will air during KVRU’s weekly Cultural Producers Hour, Tuesdays at 6pm.
Q&A with the Nourish team
KVRU: How does radio support the work Nourish is doing?
NOURISH: Radio supports Nourish by providing a free outlet to share stories about community, food, and resilience to a wider audience. Radio allows Nourish to share stories like those in our book to Seattleites who may not have read the book or follow us online. We aim to make these stories available to the greater Seattle community.
KVRU: What do you hope for your audience to learn while listening to your program?
NOURISH: In listening to these stories and conversations, the audience will better understand the importance of food, community, and how they can get involved. We hope the audience will learn that taking action for political, social, and economic change can be done by anyone.
