KVRU is pleased to announce that Sharon Maeda, community radio and social justice activist, is its first station manager. Former executive director of Pacifica Radio and station manager of KRAB-FM, Maeda has nearly 40 years of community radio management experience.
“I am thrilled to launch this station bringing the voices of Southeast Seattle to the airwaves. Broadcasting diverse arts and issues is greatly needed in our neighborhoods. And we will train a new generation of media makers for justice,” said Maeda.
Maeda has been a longtime leader in public media. She has served on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Task Force on Minorities, Congressional Black Caucus Communications Brain Trust, National Federation of Community Broadcasters Steering Committee, and Communications Commission of the United Methodist Church. She currently serves on the Public Radio Satellite Interconnection System Charitable Trust.
“SEED is delighted to welcome Sharon Maeda as KVRU station manager. Sharon has extensive experience in community radio as well as deep roots in Southeast Seattle and a commitment to its varied communities,” said Lance Matteson, Executive Director, SEED (parent organization of Rainier Valley Radio).
