About
Broadcasting from Southeast Seattle, KVRU 105.7 FM is a low-power radio station packed with high-powered ideas for supporting local creativity and working toward a more just society. Our goal is to provide listeners with opportunities to share their stories and develop ongoing, community-focused programming. KVRU is located in the Dakota Place apartment building in the Mt. Baker/Genesee neighborhood. Signal coverage includes most of Southeast Seattle and some areas beyond
KVRU 105.7FM began as a dream in 2013, conceived by passionate Southeast Seattle residents, advocates, and community members in response to a new opportunity: Congress had enacted legislation allowing urban communities to apply to the FCC to create low-power FM stations, previously only permitted in rural areas. Following a $350,000 Capital Campaign led by SouthEast Effective Development (SEED), the studio was built and antenna raised. KVRU 105.7 FM went on the air in the fall of 2017.
KVRU is a program of SEEDArts and is licensed to SEED. Established in 1976, SEED is one of the earliest place-based community development organizations in Seattle and works in three areas: affordable housing, arts & culture, and economic development. SEEDArts oversees SEED’s arts and cultural work and builds community through multiple programs: Columbia City Gallery, Rainier Arts Center, SEEDArts Studios, public & community arts, and KVRU 105.7 FM.
KVRU is a member of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.
